As our valued patient, it is important to us that you understand all the phases of this procedure before moving forward. We want to ensure your total comfort and confidence in your treatment and are always available to answer any questions you may have.
Consultation and Planning
First, we evaluate your health and dental anatomy to determine the best course of action. You may need implant-supported dentures, partial dentures, bridges or even a single crown, as well as a varying number of implants from a single unit up to eight optimally placed support posts.
It’s essential that you have adequate jaw bone density. If necessary, we may recommend a bone graft before implant placement. Healthy bone and gums will ensure your implant treatment is successful.
Next, we place your implant(s). This procedure is performed while you are comfortably sedated, generally taking 1 – 2 hours depending on how many implants you need. You’ll want to schedule transportation home from your appointment. Although you can return to work as soon as you feel ready, make sure you give your body adequate rest to recover properly.
It takes roughly three to six months for your jaw bone to fuse with the implant (a process called osseointegration). In that time, it’s especially important that you maintain excellent oral hygiene. Be prepared to maintain a soft-foods diet for at least a week or two after your surgery.
Once completely healed, we prepare your custom-fitted prosthetic using a casting of your oral structure. After we’ve installed your new teeth, you can enjoy years of a sturdy, healthy-looking smile.
Why Choose Dental Implants?
Dental implants are the only tooth replacement option that replaces the whole tooth, from root to tip. Tooth roots serve a vital function—not only do they keep our teeth stable, but they maintain our facial structure. The jawbone is relatively malleable and changes in size and shape if there is no tooth root to stimulate it. Dental implants preserve your natural facial structure and help prevent bone loss.
At the office of Dr. Waite & Associates, we will expertly guide you through every stage of your dental implant journey. Call today and schedule a comprehensive evaluation!
